Join us for a coffee chat with EPD Professor Debra Jones who just completed a research project over the past year with UNDESA to analyze how UN entities are working with civil society. Debra conducted a survey with all UN entities and will be sharing some of the findings from that survey and discussing the overall process. 

Debra Jones bio:
Debra A. Jones is a senior child rights advocate and campaigner with 30 years of experience leading high-impact advocacy campaigns, programs and research with a commitment to ensure local communities develop and execute innovative solutions to local to global problems. Ms. Jones currently serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs on economic, political, and sustainable development. She is a Co-founder and Chair of the Board of the International Organization for Adolescents preventing human trafficking. She serves as a Strategic Advisor to the TAP Network campaigning for just, inclusive and peaceful societies. In addition, she is an advisor to international non-profit organizations, global coalitions, and the United Nations.

Ms. Jones has served as a Strategic Advisor to The Education Commission and the UN Special Envoy for Global Education; a Global Advocacy and Campaigns Director at JK Rowling's Lumos Foundation; Save the Children’s Director and UN Representative in New York; and Family Care International's Director of Global Advocacy and National Director in the Dominican Republic. As co-founder of the Paraíso Assistance Program (PAP), Ms. Jones, together with Haitian and Dominican community leaders, built Amor al Projimo Hospital in Paraiso, Dominican Republic.

Ms. Jones has held positions at the Rockefeller Foundation, the Presbyterian UN Office, and Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, and has served as a senior consultant with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, World Vision International, International Planned Parenthood Federation (WHR), and Profamilia Dominican Republic.

Ms. Jones holds master’s degrees in public health and international affairs from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree from New York University.
