Since 1965, the New York State Senate Fellowship Program has given graduate and post-graduate students direct access to state government and the legislative process. Selection for a Senate fellowship is competitive. Strong personal initiative and principles are essential for success. Applications from a wide range of interests and disciplines are welcomed and encouraged. Many fellows are today employees of the NYS Senate, the NYS Assembly, the Executive Chamber, or state agencies. Almost all go on to shape public policy in some capacity.

Typical recruiting process/cycle/timelines for the Fellowship:
New York State Senate Fellowship Application open: January 1st-May 1st
Interviews conducted: May-June
Selections: Early July
Program Duration: Mid-September 2024-Mid June 2025
You must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident to work for NY state and all applicants must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States for the duration of the Fellowship Program (September 2024-June 2025).
