Please join EE for a discussion with Miles Braxton, January 30th, 2020 from 6 - 7:30 PM.

Miles will share his professional journey to date and how he found his current area of expertise. He will offer valuable advice to students on gaining relevant experience through internships, volunteering, part time jobs, classes, etc to transition into the clean energy industry. Miles will touch on the value of networking by seeking mentorship and professional role models, and finding inspiration through combining entrepreneurship and sustainability. He will also share current trends in the solar development field from a hiring/retention perspective and from a technical content perspective. Specifically, Miles hopes to offer guidance on how students, especially students of color, can stand out in the job search process.

Miles Braxton serves as a business development analyst on the Sol Customer Solutions (SCS) team. Miles helps to investigate and engage potential clients in emerging solar markets, in addition to leading SCS' business-to-business proposals in select markets across the country. This entails conducting early-stage project financial analysis, designing solar arrays, and conducting market research.

Prior to joining Sol Systems, Miles completed a renewable energy fellowship at ITility, where he helped a small project management team convert 220 tons of chicken manure into 2 MW of electricity through anaerobic digestion processes in a contract with the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA). There, he focused on chemical analysis to ensure the proper yield of biogas at each chicken farm.

Miles recently graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Environmental Science with a concentration in atmospheric sciences. Through the Technology Leaders Program at U.Va., he concentrated in renewable energy. At U.Va., he founded and led an organization, Black Leaders for Environmental Sustainability (BLES), that works to install interactive renewable energy systems on campus grounds and encourages minority students to increase their sustainability awareness and efforts. Miles is currently pursuing a certificate in Financing and Deploying Clean Energy through the Yale Center of Business and Environment (CBEY).
