The United Nations has professionalized and strengthened its communications & outreach activity in recent years. However, the multilateral pillars upon which the United Nations is built have come under sustained pressure during the Trump Presidency. Mark Seddon, Director of the Centre for UN Studies at the University of Buckingham, explores how the Biden Presidency will differ from its predecessor and what new challenges and opportunities may exist for the United Nations and its ability to communicate key messages.

Speaker bio
Mark Seddon has over a quarter of a century experience in journalism and communications. He has been a Speechwriter and Communications advisor to the former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the former President of the UN General Assembly, Maria Fernanda Espinosa and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown in his capacity as UN Special Envoy for Global Education.  He has also worked as a communications consultant for UNDP & UNCTAD.
He was the first UN Correspondent for Al Jazeera English TV and the Editor of Tribune magazine in the UK. Mark has written regularly for The Guardian, The Independent, Independent on Sunday, Evening Standard and New Statesman amongst other publications. He is the author of 'Standing for Something' and 'Jeremy Corbyn and the Strange Re-Birth of Labour England. He has been a Visiting Professor at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University, and is currently Director of the Centre for UN Studies at the University of Buckingham.
