Have questions about a career in conflict resolution? Seeking advice on how to "make it" in the field? Curious about the career trajectories of your professors?

Join the Conflict Resolution Collective for a panel with SIPA professors, Kenny Gluck, Victoria Holt, and Jean-Marie Guéhenno to discuss the experiences, motivations, and skills that have shaped their careers in conflict resolution.

Professor Kenny Gluck co-teaches the Conflict Resolution course at SIPA, and served as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the Central African Republic until December 2019. Prior to this assignment he worked extensively on the Yemen peace process as Deputy Special Envoy of the Secretary General for Yemen, as well as Director and Deputy Head of the Peacebuilding Support Office of the AU/UN Joint Mediation for Darfur. Before joining the United Nations he served as Director of Operations for Médecins Sans Frontières and in MSF missions in Chechnya, Sudan, Somalia and elsewhere.

Victoria K. Holt is a Vice President at the Henry L. Stimson Center, and an adjunct professor at Columbia University. Her expertise includes international security and multilateral tools, peace operations and conflict prevention. Previously, Holt served as U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Security in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs from 2009 to early 2017. In that role, she was responsible for policy and guidance for U.S. actions in the UN Security Council, and oversaw offices handling peace operations, sanctions, counter-terrorism, and UN political affairs. She led development of U.S. diplomatic initiatives, including the 2015 Leaders' Summit on U.N. Peacekeeping, hosted by President Obama to increase capacities for UN operations.

Jean-Marie Guéhenno is currently teaching the course Conflict in the 21st Century: Rethinking Conflict Prevention and Conflict Resolution during this Spring 2021 semester. He is a senior fellow at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs and a member of the U.N. secretary-general's High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation. From 2014 to 2017, Guéhenno was president and CEO of the International Crisis Group. As the undersecretary-general for peacekeeping operations at the United Nations from 2000 to 2008, Guéhenno became the longest-serving head of peacekeeping. Guéhenno has published articles in many newspapers and magazines, and is the author of the "End of the Nation-State". He led the biggest expansion of peacekeeping in the history of the United Nations. He is an expert in peacekeeping, global governance, and transnational security threats.
