Alejandro Bonil Vaca
From Bogotá, Colombia, Alejandro has 10 years of research and practical experience in the field of international migrations, humanitarian affairs, and peacebuilding. He is a 2nd year MPA Student concentrating in Human Rights and Humanitarian Policy and specializing in Gender Policy and Conflict Resolution. Prior to SIPA, Alejandro worked as a consultant for private, public, international and non-profit organizations in Colombia and Latin America, for a myriad of peacebuilding-related initiatives. From projects linked to humanitarian/mobility assessments, land restitution for IDPs, education in emergencies, emergency preparedness response and empowerment of women survivors of the armed conflict, Alejandro gathered knowledge in project management, human rights and policy research and strategic management for social projects.
In 2017, Alejandro lead a demographic study that encompassed the understanding of the shifting Latin American immigration flows main characteristics assessing the inflow of the Venezuelan population in Colombia and other Latin-American countries. Most recently, Alejandro worked with CARE USA and the Women’s Refugee Commission in understanding methodologies to asses for humanitarian/refugee needs in conflict-driven environments. Also, Alejandro conducted comprehensive research on Demobilization, Disarmament, and Reintegration of ex-combatants in the Central African Republic for the United Nations Department of Peace Operations.
