SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: MIA/MPA/MPA-DP Capstone Workshops
To all 2nd-year MIA/MPA/MPA-DP students and fall graduates: the 2025-2026 Capstone Workshops projects and application is now available from Monday, October 6, 2025 until Monday, October 20, 2025 NOON (12pm EST) on the Capstone website.
Who should apply? All MIA, MPA, and MPA-DP students graduating in spring or fall 2026 who have not yet completed their Capstone Workshop requirement — or whose final semester in residence at SIPA will be spring or fall 2026 — must apply and are guaranteed placement in a workshop.
For students who are not in these two groups? This application cycle is ONLY for students who are required to take a Capstone workshop this year to graduate at the end of spring 2026 or fall 2026. Please note that Capstone workshops are only offered in the spring semester. Therefore, all fall graduates must complete their Capstone requirement in the spring semester.
For any students who wish to take the Capstone workshop early or as an elective, we will offer a second-round application in early November for any projects that have capacity once all required students have been placed. Students who are not required to take a Capstone in this cycle are asked to wait until the second application cycle to apply.
Please note, the Capstone Workshop in Sustainable Development Practice (the D&G Workshop) has a separate application with separate application dates. Students may not apply outside their designated Capstone workshop program without prior permission. If you have further questions about the D&G workshops, please contact Prof. Eugenia McGill (em419@columbia.edu) or Vida Huimin Herling (hh2655@columbia.edu).
All Capstone applicants are invited to attend a webinar on the Capstone application process.
