Outcomes of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development

In this event, we will analyze the outcomes of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development. We would look at areas where there were significant advance, such as development banks, as well as those which reinforced existing UN processes, notably the negotiations of the UN Convention on International Tax Cooperation. At the same time, we would look at areas where progress was limited and additional action would be required, notably debt relief and renegotiations, and those where limited advance was made, such as international monetary cooperation.

Daniel Naujoks
Professor
Daniel Naujoks is the director of the International Organization & UN Studies Specialization at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. His research focuses on global governance, and migration, refugees, and citizenship in the Global South, including his book ‘Migration, Citizenship, and Development' (2013, Oxford University Press). His current research sheds light on the integration of migration and displacement into UN Development Plans and the role of cooperation between UN agencies. Daniel regularly advises international organizations. He serves as chair of the section on migration, refugees and diaspora of the Association for the Study of Nationalities, past chair of ISA’s Ethnicity, Nationalism, and Migration Studies section and as editor of the journal Diaspora Studies and the blog Multilateralism in Action. He holds a PhD in political science and political economy from the University of Münster and a law degree from Humboldt University in Berlin. He has previously taught at The New School’s Studley Graduate Programs in International Affairs and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Jose Antonio Ocampo

José Antonio Ocampo is Co-Director of the Development and Governance Concentration in the School of International and Public Affairs, Member of the Committee on Global Thought and of the Initiative for Policy Dialogue at Columbia University. He is also a member and was the Chair of the Committee for Development Policy, an expert committee of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and was Chair of the Independent Commission for the Reform of International Corporate Taxation (ICRICT) in 2015-2022, and is a current member.
Prior to his appointment and on leave of absence for public service during his tenure at Columbia University, Ocampo has served in a number of positions in the United Nations and the Government of Colombia, most notably as United Nations Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs; Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC); Minister of Finance and Public Credit on two occasions; Chairman and member of the Board of Banco del República (Central Bank of Colombia); Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Director of the National Planning Department (Minister of Planning); and Executive Director of Fedesarrollo.
