Drawing on 25 years of experience working with UNCDF, UNDP, the UN Office for South-South Cooperation and UNV, Adam Rogers provides critical insights into UN communication. He shows that, when properly harnessed and applied, communication concepts, theory, tools and methodologies are critical components to every dimension of multilateral cooperation and sustainable development. The talk focuses on the broad spectrum of communication from donor relations and resource mobilization to communication for development, which seeks to amplify voice, facilitate meaningful participation, and foster social change.

The speaker invites students to engage with him before the discussion so that he can be sure to touch on those topics of greatest interest to the class. He can be reached on all social media including: Twitter (@adamrogers2030), LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com/in/nostrAdamus/), Instagram (g.adamrogers) and or his website (www.adamrogers.online).

Speaker Bio
In 1996, Adam Rogers left an exciting career with an e-commerce startup he co-founded and reluctantly agreed to join the United Nations for a year to head up the communications office of the UN Capital Development Fund. He told his partners he would be back in 12 months, but 22 years later he was still there, having been on missions to more than 50 countries and worked at three different organizations: UNCDF, the UN Development Programme and the UN Office for South-South Cooperation. He is now retired but continues working as a strategic advisor and consultant to the organization. When asked what motivates him the most his answer is simple: a world formed and informed by the SDGs.

Adam’s current work is with UN Volunteers, where he leads the communication effort behind the Plan of Action to Integrate Volunteering into the 2030 Agenda.  Adam also is supporting UNDP in Ukraine with its response to the COVID-19 pandemic and with overall strategic communication in support of its portfolio of programmes there.

He is the world’s 10th most successful influencer on UN issues on Twitter, as tracked by UN Social 500 (just four spots behind UN Secretary-General António Guterres) and Onalytica ranked him as the second top influencer in sustainability (just behind Bill Gates and ahead of Jeff Sachs).

Adam’s most recent published work includes The Intrepid Traveler: The ultimate guide to responsible, ecological, and personal-growth travel and tourism and The No Mammal Manifesto: Diet for a new and more sustainable world
