Martin Waehlisch, leader of the Innovation Cell in the Policy and Mediation Division of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (UN DPPA) in the UN Secretariat shares his insights into UN careers in peacebuilding and conflict resolution, including at DPPA. Dr Waehlisch will highlight how to prepare for careers in UN peacebuilding, key pathways and hiring processes at headquarters and in the field. He will offer insights into different job profiles and the skills needed to succeed. 

Speaker Bio:
Martin Waehlisch leads the Innovation Cell in the Policy and Mediation Division of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (UN DPPA) in the United Nations Secretariat in New York City. His work focuses on applying and developing cross-cutting new methods and approaches to conflict prevention, peace mediation and peacebuilding, including new technologies, big data, strategic foresights, speculative design and behavioural sciences. He has worked on peace initiatives around the world on various levels. He is a mediator and lawyer by training, holds a PhD in International Law, and has published widely in the field of international conflict resolution. His new edited volume "Rethinking Peace Mediation: Challenges of Contemporary Peacemaking Practice" (Bristol University Press) looks at the peace mediation practice today and the role of third parties in the resolution of armed conflicts.
