Join the Columbia Peruvian Student Association for its inaugural Columbia Perú Summit 2025 on April 21st. This timely gathering will explore Perú's economic outlook and policy landscape through high-level discussions on macroeconomic stability, investment, and development.

Hosted by the Peruvian Student Association and MPA in Global Leadership.

Bios:

Dr. Julio Velarde – Governor, Central Reserve Bank of Peru

Dr. Julio Velarde has served as Governor of the Central Reserve Bank of Perú (BCRP) since October 2006. He has received multiple international distinctions, including Central Banker of the Year in 2015 and Central Banker of the Year, Americas in 2020 and 2022, awarded by The Banker, a publication of the Financial Times.

He previously served as a BCRP Board Member (1990–1992, 2001–2003) and as Executive President of the Latin American Reserve Fund (FLAR) from 2004 to 2006.

At Universidad del Pacífico (UP), he held several academic leadership roles, including Full Professor, Chair of the Economics Department, and Dean of the Faculty of Economics. In 2023, he was named Professor Emeritus.

He holds an M.A. in Economics from Brown University, where he also pursued PhD studies. He earned his B.A. in Economics from UP, graduating with the Robert Maes Special Award in 1974.



Andrea Casaverde - SIPA MIA '19, Director, Latam Economics, UBS

Andrea Casaverde is an economist covering the Andean Region (Chile, Colombia, and Peru) at the UBS Economic Research team. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Perú and a master’s degree in International Finance and Economic Policy at Columbia University in New York. Before UBS, she worked for six years as a macroeconomist in the financial sector and business consultancy companies in Perú.



Claudia Cornejo - SIPA MPA '24, Former Minister of Trade and Tourism

Claudia Cornejo is a strategic leader and international advisor with expertise in economic development, global trade, and sustainable innovation. As Perú's Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (2020–2021), she led the National Trade and Tourism Recovery Strategy and secured Peru’s CPTPP ratification.

Previously a Senior International Advisor at the Sustainable Tourism Global Center (STGC), Claudia collaborated with global leaders to drive sustainable tourism and enhance competitiveness. She also led public-private partnerships as CEO of CONFIEP, founding Peru’s first Private Sector Gender Equality and Human Rights Committees.

Holding a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University and an MSc in Political Communication from the London School of Economics, Claudia is a VV Engage Fellow and advisor to TEDx Tukuy.



Luis Oganes - Head of Global Macro Research, J.P. Morgan

Luis Oganes is a Managing Director and Head of Global Macro Research. He manages the strategy teams that cover Rates, Currencies, Commodities and Emerging Markets Research. Luis joined J.P. Morgan in 1997 in New York and currently works in London. On several occasions, he has participated in advisory projects with governments and quasi-sovereign entities in Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia. Luis obtained his PhD in Economics from New York University in 1998 and his BA in Economics from Universidad de Lima in 1990.



Rosanna Ramos-Velita - Chairman of the Board, Caja los Andes

Ms. Ramos-Velita chairs the Board of Los Andes, a leading financial institution serving the most rural communities in Latin America. In 2010, she led the acquisition of Los Andes, and since then, Los Andes has executed tremendous growth and social impact: from $15 million in assets to $200 million, from 5 branches to over 100 branches, and from 15,000 clients to over 160,000 clients across Peru.

Before the acquisition of Los Andes, Ms. Ramos-Velita was a senior CFO at Citigroup, New York, and held senior Wall Street investment banking positions at UBS and Bankers Trust. She started her career in technology as a microcircuit designer at AT&T Microelectronics in Pennsylvania.

She serves as a Member of the Board of Governors of the Lauder Institute and is the former Chair of the Wharton Executive Board for Latin America. She served for over ten years as a Member of the Board of Grameen Foundation.

She holds an MBA from the Wharton School and an MA from the Lauder Institute, University of Pennsylvania, a Masters in Microelectronics from Lehigh University, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of North Dakota.
