Orcun Dogmazer (MIA-EPD ‘24), a Fulbright scholar from Turkey, will present an analytical exploration of the complex interplay between sports, politics, and society.  Drawing on the recent Euro 2023 women's volleyball championship and the varied reactions it elicited, Orcun's talk seeks to understand how sporting events can become focal points for broader societal and political discourse.  With an academic foundation in Economics and International Relations from Koç University and professional experience in development consultancy, Orcun offers a well-rounded perspective on the multifaceted nature of this intersection.  In addition to his academic pursuits, he engages in the venture capital sector with an interest in the impact of tech startups in emerging markets.  Orcun's diverse interests, including basketball, stand-up comedy, and podcasting, contribute to a comprehensive and nuanced approach to the topic at hand.
