This event convenes practitioners from the multilateral climate finance system alongside emerging professionals and researchers at Columbia University to explore how blended finance is deployed to catalyze sustainable investment in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). The conversation is intentionally foundational as the panel will build from first principles including, the Paris Agreement architecture, the role of the Green Climate Fund, and how public and private capital interact across the climate finance system. The goal is to leave students with a durable mental model of how climate finance actually works, who the key actors are, and where the critical constraints lie.

The discussion will examine how climate finance architecture is designed to mobilize investment in EMDEs, and where blended finance fits within that architecture. Speakers will unpack the roles of multilateral funds, development institutions, policy and data actors, and private financial institutions in moving capital from international commitments to real-economy climate outcomes.
