Special Invitation to Emerging Voices Inaugural Event: Diversity in National Security

The Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies is proud to announce:

Emerging Voices in National Security and Intelligence!

This exciting new program is to encourage students at both the undergraduate and graduate level to learn about and consider opportunities in the national security arena, including women, BIPOC, and first-generation students. Emerging Voices extends financial aid to promising low-income students, provides career and networking opportunities to underrepresented communities, and this year will provide four brand new courses integrating anti-racist, anti-bias teaching in the areas of intelligence and security.

To kick off the program, join former Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Michèle Flournoy and the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies in discussing how diversity affects national security today, the steps we can take to promote greater inclusivity in our intelligence and security environments, and how we can best support the next generation of policymakers. She is joined by a panel of speaking guests including Carmen Medina (Former Deputy Director of Intelligence, CIA),  Col. Ricardo Turner (Former Commander of the 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment), and Keren Karhi-Milo (Director, Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies). This event will be moderated by Peter Clement (former Deputy Assistant Director of CIA for Europe and Eurasia).

The Michele Flournoy event will occur on October 20th, 2021 between 12:00 and 2:00 pm in room 1512 in the IAB. Space is incredibly limited due to COVID restrictions. If interested in attending in-person, please RSVP to cfm2144@columbia.edu with your name and UNI.
