The US, like many countries, faces an existential struggle between Democracy and authoritarianism. What is the role of journalism in this delicate time? How can the traditional values of objectivity and balance be preserved in an era when journalists need to be skeptical and independent ? How can journalists cover the news without amplifying the messages of authoritarian leaders and candidates for office whose claims are often downright false and based on mis/disinformation.
