Drawing on his extensive career in management consulting and public sector leadership, including work with Deloitte, Arthur Andersen, and large-scale organizational change efforts, Professor Chris Loso will offer a condensed version of his Benchmarking class and discuss its relevance for students in the Management concentration and mid-career cohort.

This session will introduce students to subjects covered in the TPIN7802IA Benchmarking Skills for Process & Organizational Improvement course. Effective management in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors depends on an organization’s ability to continually improve performance. This session introduces the principles and practices of benchmarking—comparing performance against top organizations to identify, study, and adapt best practices that drive excellence. Through public sector–based case studies, hands-on group exercises, and applied examples, students in the course will learn the full benchmarking process, including tools and techniques for implementation. The course also explores the history, purpose, and organizational advantages of benchmarking as a strategy for continuous improvement. Conducted in person, the class emphasizes collaborative learning through breakout group activities that apply each phase of the benchmarking methodology.
