About Nicky:
Nicky Jackson Colaco joined Facebook in 2009 and was most recently Director of Public Policy, Instagram. She worked cross-functionally to address public policy issues on Instagram and across the Internet.
At Instagram, Nicky helped conceptualize and implement the CEO's mission to make Instagram the safest, most inclusive platform in the world. She helped design innovative safety tools for Instagram's 1B active users, and built social programs that support the Instagram community. She created Instagram's #MyStory photo project, which showcases work by female photographers breaking gender stereotypes, and she collaborated with Miley Cyrus and the Happy Hippie Foundation on InstaPride, a study of social issues impacting the transgender population.
In August, 2017, Nicky was featured in Wired magazine for work using artificial intelligence to address negative online interactions, and in February, 2016, she was profiled on NPR's Inflection Point, a program about women changing the status quo.
Prior to joining Instagram, Nicky managed online privacy and safety for Facebook's community of one billion users. While at Facebook, she met regularly with world leaders, elected officials, and policymakers on issues ranging from global privacy regulation to digital education curricula for parents.
From 2003 to 2007, Nicky managed international consumer product policy for Google in Mountain View, California. In 2004, she spent a year in Hyderabad, India, growing Google's first operations office to a team of over 100 in 10 months. For her work in India, she received Google's Luminary Award recognizing extraordinary achievement.
Before joining Google, Nicky spent a year in a fishing village in Hokkaido, Japan teaching English.
Nicky is a mother of two delightfully messy boys, and holds a B.S. in Media and Communications from Northwestern University and Master of International Affairs from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs.
