In most political arguments, people act as if they are speaking different languages. But what if there was a field-tested way to share your viewpoint in a winsome way that actually has a fair chance of influencing the other person. In this practical, interactive session, conflict management expert Prof. Seth Freeman draws on decades of political history and recent empirical research to offer two strategies that can help: (1) an interest-based approach that appeals to the other’s values and (2) a method from psychology called Motivational Interviewing that honors the other’s ambivalence.
