The registration period for Fall 2024 is near. It will begin on August 9th for continuing students who have completed two or more semesters, on August 12, for continuing students who have completed one semester, and on August 27 for new SIPA students.
For your convenience, in this message you find a list of all classes accredited by the International Organization and UN Studies (IO/UNS) specialization that can help you decide the final composition of your next semester.
To graduate, IO/UNS specializers need one required course and 6 additional credits in electives. Unfortuantely, Professor Marc Jaquand had to withdraw from teaching Governance, Management and Reform in UN System this fall. For this reason, the next required course will be "UN & Globablization," offered in the Spring by Professor Daniel Naujoks.

Multiple sections and instructors
If you find a course that you think should be recognized but isn't on this list, please send the information (ideally with the syllabus) to IO/UNS director, Professor Daniel Naujoks. For dual degree students, we can also recognize up to one course from your first year of the dual degree program, if you send the syllabus to Professor Naujoks.
Resources
To find information about any of the classes, please use the following resources:
-
Columbia University Directory of Classes (great for identifying classes, instructors, and details about availability)
- Stellic (key website that will allow you to search for classes, plan your academic path at SIPA, add and drop classes, generate calendars with prospective classes, see concentration & specialization requirements)
-
Vergil (similar in functionality to Stellic; good to visualize a calendar with all classes; you can import your Vergil list of classes directly into SSOL)
- SSOL (the Registration section allows students to search for classes; it is useful if you already know the name or code of the class)
Unrelated to course registrations:
If you missed our announcment on the UN's YPP last month:
Young Professionals Programme (YPP)
One of the best ways to get an entry level position is to get in through the YPP. The application open to all who are 32 years of age or younger (born on or after 1 Jan. 1992) and who hold the nationality of a participating Member State (see below list).
The application period this year is July-August and after several rounds, the final results will available in May-June 2025. Thus, this may be a good opportunity for graduates and 2nd years.
If you are interested in preparing for the exams, you may want to start early. In previous years, we also faciliated groups of students to connect to prepare together.
You find more information on the process and preparation here.
