ABSOLUTE CINEMA! Join LASA and the Columbia Forum on Democracy for screening of I'm Still Here, the Oscar-winning true story of the family of a former Brazilian lawmaker who was abducted under Brazil's military dictatorship, starring Oscar-nominated actress Fernanda Torres. Director, Walter Salles said on CNN that while making I'm Still Here, he realized "it was also a film about our present."

Join us as we end the semester with a tender evening as we explore the open veins of Latin America - and what we can learn from their anti/democratic experiences to inform our present. Brazilian snacks, soft drinks and Mexican dessert will be available!

Important times:
  • 7p.m.: snacks and background information on Brazil, democratic backsliding - and democratic resilience! - and potential lessons learned.
  • Screening starts: 7:30p.m.
  • Expected end time: 9:30 p.m.
