Realities of the Field: Reflections from Development Practitioners

UN DP - Team Leader, Gender Equality

Reporting to the Manager of the Regional Hub/Addis Ababa (e.g., day to day basis on matters related to planning and delivery of demand-based gender support to COs and to the regional programme) and the Director of the Gender Team, BPPS (e.g., overall substantive guidance and oversight)), the Team Leader on Gender Equality is the lead expert in the thematic area of gender equality and the empowerment of women across RBA countries.  They will work, in close collaboration with other advisors and specialists of Country Offices, the Regional Hub and HQ (BPPS, RBA) to reduce gender inequalities in the region, in line with the upcoming Gender Equality Strategy 2022-2025. They will be responsible for:

  • Policy Development.
  • Programme Integration and Coordination.
  • Partnerships and Resource Mobilization.
  • Knowledge Management, Learning and Innovation.

Norwegian Refugee Council - Global Investigations Specialist
­ƒôìNorway

This role will support and conduct internal administrative investigations in coordination with the Global Anti-Corruption and Investigation Specialist and relevant regional and country office staff. The Specialist will also be responsible for providing expert advice and actively contributing to NRC’s wider learning on corruption risk reduction specifically, but also on other areas such as on PSEA as advised by the technical line. The position is intended to be a deployable resource to deploy on high-risk cases, cover gaps and go into countries with a backlog of casework and clear case queues.

This role will work closely with the Global Risk Management Section, the Regional Management Group, NRC Country Directors, and a variety of staff across NRC programmes. The Specialist will report to the Head Office, and will work with the Global Anti-Corruption and Investigation Specialist on technical aspects of investigations, investigation plans and casework, and with the Head of Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Safeguarding on all SEA cases and PSEA efforts.

HORIZONT3000 - International Gender Expert
­ƒôìAustria

The international gender expert will provide the following services in a self-employed manner: technical guidance and advice as well as strategic inputs to support the HORIZONT3000 framework program 2023-2026 “ Gender Equality4Sustainable Development” as well as the knowledge management program 2023-2026 “ Sharing&Learning4Gender Equality” (both co-funded by the Austrian Development Agency), ensuring quality and alignment with the HORIZONT3000 gender equality policy. The programs involve activities with approximately 45 partner organizations in 10 countries within our sectors “Rural Development and Management of Natural Resources” and “Human Rights and Civil Society”.

UN Women - Programme Analyst, Gender Statistics
­ƒôìKenya


The Programme Analyst - Gender Statistics will report to the Regional Gender Statistics Specialist and will work closely with the operational staff in finance and procurement at the regional office, country Program specialists and the UN Women HQ Women Count Program staff. The Programme Analyst - Gender Statistics will contribute to ensuring the effective planning, implementing, managing and reporting of the gender and statistics Women Count regional Program for East and Southern Africa.

The Programme Analyst will provide timely support to the management, development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of Program results for the ESA-RO Women Count Regional Program as well for monitoring and overseeing the human and financial resources. This includes providing management support to the implementation of the Women Count Program in the region, overseeing the monitoring of progress against results frameworks and performance indicators, monitoring program finances to ensure adherence to delivery rates and utilization of resources to meet agreed upon targets and results, supporting advocacy and resource mobilization strategies. The Programme Analyst will also collect gender indicator data and maintain the regional gender statistics resource database.

Good News Corner ­ƒÿè 

"The McGowan Government’s commitment to providing secondary students at all public schools with free access to period products" began rolling out last week in Western Australia.

Public schools with Year 7-12 students will start to have access to free period products commencing from this week. Australian manufacturer Essity will supply the period products for more than 220 public schools. Improving access to period products will help keep students engaged in school."
