D-PRIZE GLOBAL COMPETITION
The D-Prize Global Competition is live and seeking new social entrepreneurs! D-Prize challenges bold new leaders to tackle extreme poverty. This year, as many as 30 teams will be awarded with up to $20,000 each to launch nonprofits or social ventures that can distribute proven poverty interventions to thousands, maybe even millions, of people.
Applications are due June 6.

Who Should Apply? You should have enormous ambition, and can imagine yourself as a successful entrepreneur. You are ready to launch your new venture, and - if a pilot proves successful – you are excited to grow it into a world changing organization. If you are still a student or have an existing job, you should have a clear idea how to transition into a full-time founder. D-Prize is exclusively interested in ventures that will scale distribution of an already proven poverty intervention in the developing world.

D-Prize is looking to spread the word about the Global Competition among students passionate about social entrepreneurship, global health, education, agriculture, renewable energy, poverty alleviation, or last mile distribution.

You can learn more about D-Prize, the Global Competition, and the application at d-prize.org
PICK OF THE WEEK

This week's featured series: POSE

Set in the late 80s and early 90s New York City, this is a story of ball culture and the African-American and Latino gay and trans community in New York City, as they navigate between discrimination, the raging AIDS pandemic, and capitalism. The first season was met with critical acclaim and subsequently received numerous award nominations including the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Drama for Billy Porter. In 2019, Porter was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series – the first openly gay black man to be nominated for and win in an Emmy lead acting category. The series was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the same ceremony. Pose boasts the largest cast of trans actors in TV history.

This week's featured book: The Committed
The Committed is a 2021 novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen. It is his second novel and the sequel to his debut novel The Sympathizer (2015), which sold over one million copies and was awarded the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

The Committed” is a sequel to Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “The Sympathizer” (2015). The books share a narrator, a Communist spy, half-Vietnamese and half-French, who refers to himself as “a man of two faces and two minds.”

This new novel is set in the early 1980s, as the man of two faces flees not to America but to France. He’s survived a harrowing boat trip, and a flight from Jakarta with Bon, his “best friend and blood brother.” Their story is complicated to unwind.
