UN Women is implementing a new programme called the ‘Transformative approaches to recognize, reduce, and redistribute unpaid care work in women’s economic empowerment programming’ programme (‘3R Programme’) which will be implemented in Rwanda, Senegal and South Africa. The overarching goal of the programme is to remove the structural barriers to women’s full and equal participation in the economy by recognizing, reducing, and redistributing unpaid care work. The programme will complement existing UN Women programmes on climate-resilient agriculture and rural women’s economic empowerment in the three countries, by developing a care component which aims to recognize, reduce and redistribute women’s unpaid care and domestic workloads and overall time poverty.

Reporting to the Policy Advisor, Sustainable Development at UN Women HQ in New York, the Programme Manager exercises overall responsibility for planning, implementing, and managing the 3R Programme, including the financial management of the overall programme.  The Programme Manager provides overall guidance to the National Coordinators in Rwanda, Senegal and South Africa, and works in close collaboration with colleagues in Economic Empowerment as well as key partners and stakeholders. The Programme Manager is responsible for coordinating the knowledge management and communication efforts coming out of the programme, as well as results-based monitoring and reporting.

NYU Center on International Cooperation, BRAC, and UN Women recently concluded a study of the demographic and socioeconomic changes induced by the unprecedented reverse (urban-to-rural) migration that took place in Bangladesh following the COVID-19 lockdown. Findings from the study reveal the dire circumstances facing returnee migrants, their families, and their rural communities, including an alarmingly high incidence of child marriages among surveyed households, an explosion in household debt, and the drying up of income opportunities. This virtual dialogue will provide an opportunity for the research partners to discuss these and other findings, and identify solutions, with regional and migration experts. Additionally, a keynote address will be delivered by Professor Dr. Gowher Rizvi, International Relation Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Event attendees will have an opportunity to engage in this important discussion and ask questions of the panelists.
