These sessions will be led by OCS’s Meg Heenehan and Pat Macken and will be concentration-specific. The groups are designed as a guided approach to search and a forum for sharing information, tools and resources. Participants are requested to contribute to the ongoing discussion of search-related goals and progress in reaching them. A variety of perspectives will be provided by career advisers, coaches, alumni, concentration professionals and employers.

Faculty Spotlight: Eric Verhoogen
Over the summer, we will highlight some of SIPA and EPD’s core faculty members! Feel free to explore faculty profiles and the classes that they teach at SIPA.

This week's spotlight is Professor Eric Verhoogen, who teaches Advanced Economic Development at SIPA and is the Co-Director of the Center for Development Economic and Policy

His current research involves working with soccer ball producers in Pakistan. His first project was featured in this SIPA video and HBR articleFun fact: His wife helped him come up with the technological innovation that is the subject of this Pakistan project! Read the HBR article for more on that!

Professor Verhoogen’s new project involves experimentally varying the price of imported varieties of a key input, rexine (artificial leather), and seeing how firms respond.

Professor Verhoogen will be teaching Advanced Economic Development (INAF U8145) in Spring 2021, which is one of the core economic development courses in the EPD curriculum. What differentiates the U8145 Advanced Economic Development from the lower level U6602 Economic Development, also taught in spring 2021, is that U8145:

(1) Uses calculus and presents models in a fairly rigorous way
(2) Requires extensive Stata programming in empirical exercises
(3) The pre-requisite for U8145 is a microeconomics course that has used calculus, or a generally strong math background and familiarity with calculus
