Hello EPD-ers!

Welcome back to a New Year and a new semester! A special welcome to our new EPD-ers starting this January! We hope you all had a relaxing break and managed to stay Covid negative! I believe Winston Churchill once famously described Zoom school with the phrase "omg eww...", but thankfully, we're feeling confident that we'll all be able to see each other in person as soon as February rolls around!

For now, there are only a few events taking place during this remote period, but we're looking forward to hosting some great EPD events in the coming months and making this a semester that we'll all remember fondly in the future!

Hang tight for these first couple of weeks and see below for both EPD and non-EPD announcements!

This week’s newsletter includes:

  • EPD Announcements
  • EPD Course Availability Update
  • Career Events
  • Beyond the Bubble

EPD Announcements

Course Advising Session
Open to all EPD-ers, join a group of second year students for an informal chat about courses and our recommendations, tips, and/or advice on structuring your courseload over your degree, with a focus on EPD classes! We'll be on Zoom from 1-2 PM Wednesday January 19. Link to Join HERE.

Tote Bags!

If you haven't already picked up your amazing EPD tote bag, they are waiting for you in the EPD office in Room 1305 in IAB. However, we ask that you wait until February when we are back in the building for classes before you go up to the office to claim your bag. We'll keep them safe for you until then!

UPCOMING EPD AND OTHER EVENTS

United Nations Association - New York (UNA-NYC) UN Careers Talks
While not a SIPA event, we figured this could be of interest to EPD-ers as the local UN Association is hosting an upcoming four-part series Careers at the United Nations, starting on January 26. In this expansion on UNA's regular UN Careers briefings, we will give attendees exclusive access to information and insider tips on how to navigate and apply for jobs within the UN system and associated NGOs. You’ll learn about competencies and skills needed, cover letters, the selection process and much more across these four sessions:

January 26 | The United Nations Job Landscape
February 2 | Interviewing to Impress
February 9 | Navigating the NGO Ecosystem
February 16 | Young Professionals Panel

Register now and learn more about each session here. All registrations need to be made by January 25.

BEYOND THE BUBBLE

Outdoor Spa in Brooklyn
For those of us not from New York City, this can seem like an unusual place sometimes. That includes the Winter Spa at the William Vale in Greenpoint, which allows you to rent (expensive) outdoor saunas on their rooftop to enjoy winter in Brooklyn as if we were in Scandinavia (the ad doesn't get more specific than that. I think they just mean European and cold, which is definitely a vibe!) If the start of a new semester is just too much to handle, grab some friends and (following Columbia's covid guidance of course) start sweating away the zoom fatigue! Check out this and other goings on around town that have not yet been Omicron-cancelled at TimeOut's list of January Events.
