STUDENT SPOTLIGHTS

Kylie Tumiatti  is a second-year MPA student concentrating in EPD and specializing in ICR. Prior to SIPA she obtained her B.S. in International Affairs from Seton Hall University. Despite having spent the last 5 years in the North, she still considers herself a Floridian, especially in the winter. Last year, Kylie took a leave of absence from Columbia to accept a Fulbright ETA grant to Malaysia where she worked as a high school teaching assistant in Terengganu, Malaysia (let her know if you know any good Malaysian food in NYC, she's dying for rendang). She is a Pickering Fellow who will be entering the Foreign Service after graduation. Kylie is passionate about empowering marginalized communities through accessible education and promoting women’s rights in all areas of policy. When she isn’t studying, Kylie enjoys finding interesting experiences in New York, doing anything that involves food, listening to the My Favorite Murder podcast, and watching anime. Feel free to reach out to her with any recommendations or to talk about how crazy the world is right now.

Yun Liang is a first-year MPA student with an EPD concentration. She was born in China but grew up in NYC. The formative experience shaped Yun's world view early on and she became really interested in US-China bilateral relations and international affairs. Prior to SIPA, she worked at the US Consulate in Guangzhou for the Foreign Commercial Service, where she conducted market research on the electric vehicle and telecommunications industries and helped to formulate and implement US commercial policy in China. In her most recent role, Yun worked in political advocacy at the United Nations focusing on the promotion of soft power tools such as intercultural and interfaith dialogue to prevent violent extremism and identity-based conflicts. Yun hopes to learn more about development work at SIPA and is excited to meet everyone in person!

Fun fact: Outside of school and work, Yun is a foodie and loves to travel. Yun also trained professionally in ballet and contemporary dance for over 15 years.
