HISTORY SPOTLIGHT - VALENTINE'S DAY

The Library of Congress History of Valentine's Day

Just in case your date isn't going well this evening and you are looking for a polite way to make sure they don't follow up and suggest a second date, we have just the thing for you: Library of Congress fun facts on the history of Valentine's Day! Bore your date to death by bringing up facts like: apparently the origins can be traced back to the Romans, who had a feast for spring that was kinda sorta near February 14th (I'm unconvinced. Sounds unrelated). The first exchanging of Valentine's Day cards didn't happen until the 16th century and they were some of the first greeting cards ever made! The Library of Congress has some really interesting historical resources cataloging how Americans have celebrated the holiday in food and song through the years available HERE. Scroll to the bottom for some actually pretty cool sounding resources! By the way, this image on the left showing two cherubs eating ice cream here is from 1879 and is called "The Cream of Love" lol.
