Happy Week, Everyone!

Hope you've had a great weekened (with no Macro exams and no Capstone dealines)! Spring break is coming, but before that we have some exciting talks and events in the next few days.

First of all, we'd like to invite you all to check the Student Volunteer Program organized by the Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR), which includes eight-week summer internship and a travel grand. The application deadline is 11:59 PM EDT on March 15, 2020. More information about the program and stipend is available on the ISHR website. Don't miss this opportunity!

If You Are Interested in Tech & Human Rights, Join Us Tomorrow, Monday!

The UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions, Agnes Callamard, will discuss with other experts the impact that surveillance and interception of communications may have on human rights. The private surveillance industry has thrived with low levels of transparency and weak controls on sale of technology. What can we do about it? Come to this panel supported by the Human Rights Working Group, and let's talk about challenges and solutions.

When: March 2, Monday, 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Where: IAB Room 1501

...and yes, more on technology and human rights!

In the US, asylum seekers at the border face a number of surveillance threats both from governments and from sophisticated commercial actors who sell data and analytics to the US government. Dragana Kaurin, Research Fellow at the Berkman Klein Center at Harvard University, and Dr. Lara J. Nettelfield, Senior Lecturer at the Institute for the Study of Human Rights, will unpack the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers crossing these borders, emerging human rights issues in digital surveillance, as well as legal and policy responses by civil society, in this event promoted by the HRHP Concentration.

When: March 5, Thursday, 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Where: IAB Room 404

...and last but not least...
