DAQA Photo Contest(Calling for submission!)
As we all experience SIPA differently this semester than ever before, we’d like to see “from your eyes” where you’ve been learning this semester! Send us a selfie or picture from your “personal classroom” setup, or the view from your window, or another cool part of your daily routine this semester! It could be whatever you consider a reflection of your learning environment - you choose! At the end of the month, we’ll create a collage of all the submissions by the DAQA squad. Be creative and have fun!
Extended submission period by November 29, send your snap to yz2878@columbia.edu with the subject " DAQA Photo Contest - Your Name"
Look forward to seeing your photos!

Studies have shown that as many as 80% of all job opportunities are filled through networking. Yet how to initiate and participate effectively in the networking process is challenging for many job seekers and career changers – especially those from countries and cultures outside the United States.
In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to develop, enrich and leverage a network of contacts; what’s reasonable to anticipate and expect from the process; and how to conduct networking activity to maximize effectiveness in the job search and career advancement.
Joanne Heyman is the founder and CEO of Heyman Partners, a consultancy that promotes economic development and social impact in the non-profit, private and public sectors. A SIPA alumna, Ms. Heyman’s career has progressed through a variety of leadership positions in organizations worldwide.
Are you interested in Economic and Political Development? Whether you are a first-year or second-year student, come and learn more about working in EPD industries after graduation. At the Career Series, you will meet with SIPA alumni and other professionals to discover various career paths within the EPD concentration.
The EPD Career Series will host four (4) breakout rooms. The categories are as follows:
Impact Investing (ex: Rockefeller Foundation)
Development Consulting (ex: DAI)
Political Risk (ex: Eurasia Group)
Multilateral Organizations (ex: World Bank Group)
*It is not guaranteed that the example employers will be present at the event. Students will be emailed a finalized list of alumni speakers and their employers on the day of the event.
Students will pre-register for their preferred breakout session. If your preference changes, you may notify the event host(s) at the event after introductions.
Please sign into the event on time (early is better!) so event hosts may facilitate the break-out room assignments and avoid delays. **THIS EVENT WILL NOT BE RECORDED**
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers. In most cultures volunteerism is deeply embedded in long-established, ancient traditions of sharing and support within the communities. In this context, UN Volunteers take part in various forms of volunteerism and play a role in development and peace together with co-workers, host agencies and local communities. In all assignments, UN Volunteers promote volunteerism through their action and conduct. Engaging in volunteer activity can effectively and positively enrich their understanding of local and social realities, as well as create a bridge between themselves and the people in their host community. This will make the time they spend as UN Volunteers even more rewarding and productive.
