EPD ANNOUNCEMENTS

EPD Workshops - Additional Openings:
While EPD workshops have been assigned to second years, please keep an eye out for a separate email with additional information on the possibility of first years joining some projects that have outstanding availability.

Call for Student Photos! Each year, EPD tries to document the lives of EPD students throughout the academic year. We often share photos in newsletters and a year in review presentation at the end of the year. As part of this endeavor, we need your help submitting fun photos! So next time you are at an EPD event or just grabbing a photo worthy lunch with some EPD friends, snap a photo and send it our way!

PICK OF THE WEEK

This week's featured book: Will  by Will Smith

Does this choice have anything to do with his sharing a name with one of our beloved PA's? I'm offended you would even think such a thing. Oprah Winfrey calls this, "The best memoir I have ever read," which is high praise! Written with Mark Manson, this book traces the life of the movie star Will Smith and was just released this month! So if you are overwhelmed with policy briefs and economics graphs, check out this book for a distraction from the SIPA bubble and learn about the life of the second coolest Will around!

(We would love to hear your recommendations! Let us know what you have watched/read/listened to recently so we can feature them in the next newsletter!)

HAPPENING OUTSIDE THE BUBBLE

Tourists are allowed back in NYC! With the reopening of US borders to tourists, New York may start to resemble its pre-covid self in yet another way. Check out this article from the BBC for an interesting perspective on how supply chain issues are impacting the city as it prepares for an influx of temporary visitors!

Final Week of COP26: The flagship multilateral effort to come to global agreement on actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change is currently in the midst of the COP26 conference in Glasgow. While negotiations are not broadcast live, there are numerous side events, conferences and panels that are being held during the conference that can be followed virtually. CLICK HERE for a list of events, and also keep an eye on the events page of our sister Climate School here at Columbia, which has an active list of climate related events all semester long for those interested!
