Dear EPD students,

This message is intended for second-year students who are interested in participating in the Workshop in Sustainable Development Practice (the EPD Workshop).  Students taking the Methods for Sustainable Development Practice course and other EPD second-years will be given priority for participation in the Workshop.

The application process for this Workshop is separate from the application process for non-EPD “capstone workshops,” which are also being announced this week.  (Any questions on the non-EPD capstone workshops should be directed to Suzanne Hollmann [sph2103].)  The EPD Workshop satisfies the capstone requirement for MIA and MPA students.

Attend an information session
Information sessions for the EPD Workshop will be held on Friday, October 15 at 9:30 and 11:00am in Room 407 and on Zoom (see links below).  All applicants are strongly advised to attend one of these sessions.

About the application
The online application will open and project descriptions will be available by Monday, October 18 through the “Workshop in Sustainable Development Practice 2020-21” site on CourseWorks. The site address is:  https://courseworks2.columbia.edu/courses/144243   Second-year EPD students will have access to this site by Friday, October 15.   Other students can request access by emailing Ilona Vinklerova (iv2105).

The online application form will ask you to rank your choice of projects and to briefly describe how your skills, experience, and interests relate to the projects you have selected.  With your application, you must upload a one-page resume/CV and an official transcript from Columbia University (available free of charge from the Office of the Registrar, Room 205, Kent Hall or through SSOL).  You are urged not to wait until the last minute to get a copy of your transcript.

The Workshop is technically a spring 2022 course, and all Workshop participants will be required to register for it.  However, there will be important preliminary work to do on all Workshop projects beginning in November 2021.  Therefore, all members of Workshop teams will be expected to attend a Workshop launch session and group meetings, and to do preliminary work on their team project during the remainder of the fall semester.

Questions?
Please direct questions concerning the application process to Prof. Jenny McGill (em419) or Ilona Vinklerova (iv2105) after you have reviewed all of the application materials.
