Events:

Transgender Rights Around the World
Date: Monday, March 6

Time: 1-2pm
Location: IAB 407

The Human Rights Working Group presents a panel discussion on Transgender Rights Around the World, in partnership with Spectrum. In light of increasing backlash against transgender people and violations of their human rights around the world, HRWG invites the SIPA and broader Columbia community to learn more about the status of transgender rights globally. Three prominent human rights activists from the Human Rights Advocates Program at the Columbia University Institute for the Study of Human Rights will join us to provide an overview of the on-the-ground situation and their work on behalf of transgender people in Brazil, South Africa and Ethiopia. Q&A will follow the panel discussion. Lunch will be provided.

Resume Review and Networking with NYC WEN (Women in Energy) Chapter
Date: Wednesday, March 8

It's International Women's Day! In celebration, come and meet the NYC Chapter of WEN (Women in Energy) for a resume review and networking event. There will be energy industry professionals who will present on how to tailor your resumes for different industries such as energy finance, developer, and policy/NGO roles.
After, there will be an opportunity to network and mingle with volunteers and other members of the WEN chapter.

MARCH 8: INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY EVENTS

In celebration of International Women's Day, there will be events all day to learn and support women's rights and women around the world!

9am to 5pm: Come visit some of the gender student organizations to stamp your own purple bandana in support of gender-based violence and learn more about global gender-based issues!
Location: Ancell Plaza outside IAB

5:30pm - 7pm: A minute of silence for victims of gender-based violence and celebrate solidarity across SIPA and beyond!
Location: Meet at the Alma Mater

This is a collaborative event led by many groups at SIPA, so show your support by showing up and bringing friends!

GPPS Networking Event:

Date: Thursday, March 23
Time: 6-8pm
Location: Publique

Join seasoned professionals for a round-table networking event in Publique. Students will have th echance to meet professionals who work in gender from the private, public and non-profit sectors. Organizations include, UNWomen, UNHCR, CARE, IFC, and more! Light refreshments will be provided.

Seconded National Expert (SNE) – Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE)

Under the supervision of the Head of the Research and Policy Support Unit and the Gender-based Violence Team Leader, and working in close collaboration with other colleagues, the selected Seconded National Expert will enhance the Unit’s operational and research capacity on GBV.

The Institute collects and analyses comparable and reliable information at EU level and develops appropriate methodological tools for the integration of gender equality into all EU policies. It fosters the exchange of good practices and dialogue between stakeholders and raises awareness by providing technical assistance to EU institutions, in particular the European Commission, as well as the authorities of the Member States.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT – A YOUNG FEMINIST ECONOMY at the FORA Network

Supported by the federal Department for Women and Gender Equality, our current research project, “Ensuring a Young Feminist Economy” will address the unique needs and impacts of COVID-19 on young women with an equity lens, and tackle structural inequities to set up young women and anyone who experiences gender-based discrimination to participate equally and effectively in economies and public life of the future. By collating and conducting current research on young women’s economic participation and participation in decision-making spaces, and by advocating for young women and anyone who experiences gender-based discrimination with lived experience to take their rightful place in these decision-making spaces, this important research will identify the key policy priorities for ensuring a young feminist economy.

Head of GBV Sudan for Norwegian Church Aid ('NCA') 
NCA began its work in Sudan in 1972, and currently has four offices across the country, covering South and Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Khartoum and Gedaref states. Under the current Country Strategy (2020-2024), addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is one of our main priorities, where our goal is for women and girls to live empowered lives free from GBV. As the Head of GBV in Sudan, you will be overall responsible for NCA Sudan’s work with authorities, local communities, and faith actors to prevent GBV, including FGM, and CEFM. You will further invest in long-term development to address the root causes of GBV, as well as provide emergency assistance in humanitarian and conflict settings.  

The position is a fixed-term 1-year contract assignment based in Khartoum with travel to the field.
