EPD ANNOUNCEMENTS

EPD Workshop in Sustainable Development Practice Application Due Thursday 10/28
For those of you who will be doing an EPD Workshop this year (this excludes most students who started this Fall, so no need to worry about this if that's you!) a quick reminder to make sure that your applications are in by noon this Thursday, October 28. Professor McGill is holding extended office hours this week to speak with students who have questions or concerns. The link for sign up is at the bottom of this email.

Call for Student Photos!
Each year, EPD tries to document the lives of EPD students throughout the academic year. We often share photos in newsletters and a year in review presentation at the end of the year. As part of this endeavor, we need your help submitting fun photos! So next time you are at an EPD event or just grabbing a photo worthy lunch with some EPD friends, snap a photo and send it our way!

Call for Student Career Panel Facilitators
Each semester, in conjunction with the Career Advancement Center, EPD puts on a series of career panels aimed at the interests of our students. Following the survey responses you all helpfully submitted last week, we are currently in the process of planning this semester's panels and are looking for at least two students to volunteer to moderate these panels. First or second years are eligible! The commitment would be one lunch hour in early December, and your job will be to ask thoughtful questions to the panelists. We can work with your schedule and try to pair you with a panel that meets your own career interests. If interested, please email me or Pooja by the end of this week (wg2363 or ps3192).

HAPPENING AROUND NYC

Odd Man Out: A Pitch Black Immersive Experience
This unusual work of theater(?) involves wearing a blindfold through the entire production! From their website, "Immerse yourself in the story of Alberto, a blind musician traveling home from New York to Buenos Aires, Argentina after decades of self-exile. As you enter Alberto’s story you begin a multi-sensory journey of love, prejudice and fears that were left behind. This interactive experience will awaken your senses and  test your limits." Tickets and more information available HERE.

PICK OF THE WEEK

This week's featured book: The Book of Hope: a survivial guide for trying times, by Jane Goodall

From Amazon: Looking at the headlinesÔÇòthe worsening climate crisis, a global pandemic, loss of biodiversity, political upheavalÔÇòit can be hard to feel optimistic. And yet hope has never been more desperately needed.

In this urgent book, Jane Goodall, the world's most famous living naturalist, and Douglas Abrams, the internationally bestselling co-author of The Book of Joy, explore through intimate and thought-provoking dialogue one of the most sought after and least understood elements of human nature: hope. In The Book of Hope, Jane focuses on her "Four Reasons for Hope": The Amazing Human Intellect, The Resilience of Nature, The Power of Young People, and The Indomitable Human Spirit.

(We would love to hear your recommendations! Let us know what you have watched/read/listened to recently so we can feature them in the next newsletter!)
