Dear HRHPers,

We hope that you are doing well and are settling into the new semester! We'll keep it brief this week by means of news, so please see upcoming events, news, and opportunities below.

HRHP News

  • Missed the HRHP Course Registration Info session? Not sweat! We recorded the event and it can be accessed at this link.
  • Want to rewatch the website tutorial that we shared during the HRHP Concentration Briefing? Check it out here - and be on the lookout for the entire briefing recording from SIPA Office of Student Affairs.
  • Is there a course you're trying out but aren't sure if it counts for HRHP concentration credit? Try taking a look at the HRHP SIPA Bulletin or the Course Substitution Form
  • Notice anything different about the HRHP Degree Audit? Second years, don't fear! Your degree progress will be audited based on the old audit. Check out the HRHP website for more info.

Have questions about SIPA, grad school, NYC, HRHP, and more?
Ask the fall HRHP Program Assistants!

Julia Henriques-Souza (MIA '21) is a second year J-termer and HRHP concentrator with a specialization in Gender and Public Policy. Before coming to SIPA, Julia attended the University of Brasília, where she got a bachelor’s degree in International Relations. While there, she was involved in gender studies projects and political activism networks, which were crucial to consolidate her passion for gender issues. While in Brasília, she also worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, where she was in touch with gender, labor and health topics, and at the Public Defender’s Federal Office of Brazil, where she worked with asylum claims and access to justice. She's also an epic Lady Gaga fan.

Morgan Nevins (MIA '21) is a Master of International Affairs and Master of Science in Social Work Dual Degree Candidate at Columbia SIPA and the School of Social Work studying humanitarian policy, conflict resolution and clinical direct practice. Prior to graduate school, Morgan worked for 4 years in project management of HIV prevention, care and treatment services in Mozambique. She also has 3 years of U.S. based experience as an advocate for survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence. Morgan served with the Peace Corps in Mozambique (2011-2013) as a community health promoter. Morgan earned her Bachelor of Arts in 2010 at Colgate University, majoring in history and peace and conflict studies.

Internships and Opportunities

Research Fellow Opportunity - Model International Mobility Convention
The Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs is launching a network todevelop and promote the Model International Mobility Convention (MIMC, 2017).Professor Michael Doyle (Columbia University) will be the senior fellow directing theproject. We seek a Research Fellow to manage the project and its website and to engage in research on governance issues related to the Convention, migration and refugees.
This project will build awareness and support for the 2017 Convention by focusing on the engagement of mayors, NGOs, the private sector and religious groups. To build this support, it will develop a network of universities and think tanks that will take on the role of promoting and developing the convention. MIMC (2017) and commentary can be found at the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law here: https://mobilityconvention.columbia.edu/about

Please see attached document for application information and deadline.

Fall Capstone Workshop Application
Application for the Fall 2020 Capstone Workshop is now available here. The online application will be available from SIPA's Capstone Webpage until September 9, noon (12:00pm EST).
In your application, you will be required to submit a resume and a statement of interest (250- words or less) for each project. To find out more information about the Capstone projects, you can access the individual project description, link to the client website, and the faculty bio through the workshop webpage. Please note, the fall Capstone Workshops are intended for students graduating at the end of the fall semester who have not fulfilled their Capstone Workshop requirement. Priority will be given to graduating fall students, but each workshop should have capacity for non-graduating MIA/MPA students as well.
Students who elect to take a workshop in the fall semester will have satisfied their workshop requirement; however, students can still apply for a spring workshop should they elect to and will be placed on a project if space permits.
