The Journal of International Affairs, the storied, 75-year-old student-run international affairs publication produced by Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs is hiring its executive team for 2023. The Journal produces print issues featuring peer-reviewed scholarship as well as analytical arguments; and a burgeoning suite of digital products in text and via a podcast. Spring TA Opportunities with Climate School
The Climate and Society program at the Climate School is accepting applications for Spring 2023 teaching assistant positions. Application form with instructions and course descriptions can be accessed HERE.  
Applicants must be currently enrolled, full-time Columbia University graduate students. Students should expect to work 10-15 hours per week on average.

Andrew Wellington Cordier Prize by the Journal of International Affairs
The Journal of International Affairs invites students of Columbia University to contribute an essay of 2,000-4,000 words for publication in the forthcoming print issue. The winner will receive a prize of $500 and a complimentary copy of the issue. The winning piece will be
featured both in the print version and on JIA’s website.

Papers should explore the causes of fragilities within the state, global systems, and
society, and their long-lasting effects. Special attention will be placed on COVID-19 and its reverberating effects on global systems. Given the concept’s broad scope, the journal seeks drafts that explore discrete sub-topics as described here:

  • COVID-19 and how it exposes the fragilities of systems, states, societies, and state-society relations;
  • Climate change, Energy, and climate justice;
  • The international governance crisis and its root causes;
  • Multilateralism and diplomacy in polarized and insecure systems;
  • Polarity and great-power politics in international relations;
  • Technology and its effects, including misinformation, disinformation, and cyberwarfare, on compounding fragilities that impact international affairs;
  • Authoritarianism, nationalism, and populism in the twenty-first century and its effects on the international system and responses to international crises;
  • Refugees and forced displacement, especially in the context of climate change;
  • An analysis on the future of borders; and 
  • Sources of resiliency, strength, and adaptation for addressing the challenges that lie ahead.
Submission Guidelines: JIA publishes original, unpublished work. Conference papers or discussion papers that have not previously appeared in print are welcomed. JIA follows Chicago style, and its citation format is an adaptation of Chicago’s Notes and Bibliography system. Please email your draft to JIAprint@columbia.edu with “JIA Cordier Prize” in the subject line.
