Rain, cancellation of plans and changing weather

Hello EPD-ers!

We hope everyone made it to the other side of stormy rains without getting stranded on the subway or the roads, and we hope you're feeling better this Monday. This weekend meant that plans had to get canceled at the last minute, and a lot of muddy laundry piled up. We hope you were able to relax at the end of the week even if it meant low-key parties in tiny apartments, having a cup of hot chocolate, reading a book or watching a movie.

The postponement of the EPD retreat due to the rainy conditions was a bummer. We had been looking forward to seeing everyone for weeks so we were truly disappointed. We hope to be able to reschedule or plan other EPD fun gatherings. Please stay tuned.

EPD Student Spotlight - Himadri Ratnayake

Hi! My name is Himadri! l'm Sri Lankan-American, born and raised in California. My concentration is EPD and my specialization is IO/UN Studies. I graduated from my undergrad with two BAs, one in Political Science: International Affairs and the other in Art History. I found my passion for international affairs through my time in Model UN, where I encountered individuals from a multitude of backgrounds. Long story short, on my way back home from my first international conference in Canada, I realized that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. In my spare time, I love going out and trying new food/coffee places, experiences, and overall other fun activities. If you ever want to hangout and do something fun or even study, hit me up!

Students who would like to be featured in our newsletter can submit their story and a picture here.
EPD Events
  • Community Savings Circles and Remittances: Building on the Trillion Dollar Informal Economic System
When: Wednesday, October 18, 2023 | 1-2 pm
Where: Room 801
Register here
The "informal economic sector” swirls around us. We outsiders can’t see it, yet a villager or immigrant could tell us how it works. Ask the townsfolk and villagers who run the most transparent and community-minded savings groups how they would organize more groups. Grassroots Finance Action did just this and was astounded by the results.

Please join Jeffrey Ashe, Director of Grassroots Finance Action and SIPA Adjunct Professor, for a discussion of how these community savings groups are revolutionizing access to very much needed resources among the most disadvantaged.

EPD Coffee Dates Series

EPD Coffee Dates are finally here! Thank you so much for your overwhelming response for signing up for the coffee dates. The details of coffee dates and who you have been matched with will be shared with the participants soon. We look forward to your feedback for this initiative.

Fill this form if you want to participate! The form will be closing in the next couple of hours.
