Who are we?

The Progressive Security Working Group is a SIPA Student Group focused on international security policy with the objective to account for human-centered changes and facilitate discussion and debate on relevant topics in the field.

Our Vision

Introduce future policymakers at Columbia University's School of International & Public Affairs (SIPA) to new and innovative perspectives by fostering a multi-dimensional, interdisciplinary approach to security policy and into the study of security policy by integrating these a variety of perspectives into SIPA programming, curriculum, and activities.

Our Mission

Provide a platform for SIPA students and faculty to re-examine global security issues and policies through a broader "human security" perspective that considers the needs of the individual as well as those of the state, including those outside one's own borders.

This is accomplished by engaging with practitioners and experts, exposing members to innovative security policy ideas, and furthering their career goals through lectures, debates, panel discussions, and career information sessions.
