Join HRHP in a conversation about career and networking with Daniel Berezowsky Ramirez.

Daniel Berezowsky is a Mexican human rights strategist and communications expert with over 9 years of work experience in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. His work focuses on business and human rights and LGBTI rights. In his professional path, Daniel has gained critical experience as a human rights expert and advocate at the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights and Human Rights Watch, as well as a consultant for the private sector and senior advisor at the Mexican government.

Daniel is currently an Advisor and the Communications Lead at Shift, the leading center of expertise on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. At Shift, Daniel drives the communications and advocacy strategy. In parallel, he offers bespoke advisory support to Fortune 500 companies, sports bodies and governments on the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles. Furthermore, he has directed award-winning short films and documentaries; he has written articles and opinion pieces for multiple newspapers, both in Mexico and the US.

The goal of the talk is to hear from Daniel's experiences and career insights, as well as allow students to ask questions and have a more interactive conversation. To create more direct interactions with the guest, we are establishing a 30 people cap on RSVP, with priority to HRHP students. For that same reason, students who register are expected to join the conversation with both audio and video for the entire session. Our speaker is taking time from his busy schedule to share insights with current HRHPers, and we should show him a similar courtesy!

As global migration has reached unprecedented highs, access to basic services, such as food, has become increasingly difficult for migrants. This has been the case for the approximately 70,000 Central American migrants who travel through Mexico each year. Dr. Manuela Orjuela-Grimm, an assistant professor at the Mailman School of Public Health, will discuss her publication “Relative Severity of Food Insecurity During Overland Migration in Transit Through Mexico”. She will focus her discussion on research methods related to her work with migrants in transit as well as work with immigrant communities in NYC, especially as it relates to food security in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

December 10, 2020, 3:30pm.
Join HRE USA, the nation's network of human rights educators, as we celebrate Human Rights Day and commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations on December 10, 1948. The event will feature keynote speaker, Loretta Ross, a nationally-recognized women's rights and human rights leader whose work emphasizes the intersectionality of social justice issues and how this transforms social change. HRE USA will also honor the 2020 O'Brien Human Rights Education Award winners - Pam Bruns, Founder and Director of the Human Rights Watch Student Task Force and the ACT Center for Disability Leadership. We are also excited to include youth voices from around the world speaking on the significance of the UDHR through multimedia and poetry, introduce the 2020 Flowers Fund grantees, and announce the new Edmonds Summer Fellowship. Access to remedy in BHR cases remains as high on the agenda as it was when Gwynne started writing. The webinar will highlight the book’s contribution and address key litigation developments that have occurred since its publication including the cases of Okpabi v. Shell (awaiting judgment from the U.K. Supreme Court); Nestle USA v. Doe (oral argument in the U.S. Supreme Court on Dec. 1, 2020) and Araya v.
